8. Team America: World Police (2004)

Most fans of Trey Parker and Matt Stone would probably have put “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut” on this list. But that blasphemous potty-mouthed musical, adult as it was, looks less scandalous with time. Parker and Stone’s naughty marionette burlesque grows even more outrageously prescient. It satirizes the bomb-first-and-ask-questions-later stance of the Bush administration, but it really skewers something that has taken over even more since then: the fusion of politics and pop culture. The heroes are a commando force with headquarters hidden inside Mount Rushmore, and with their marble eyes and fragile, loping bodies, they’re a glorified series of Ken and Barbie dolls, facing down the enemies of world peace with a jockish xenophobic bluster that wouldn’t look out of place in…well, a Donald Trump administration. Made with the cheesy stoicism of a ’60s “Thunderbirds” episode, the movie has madly intricate sets, a montage of naked puppet sex in enough positions to give G.I. Joe a hernia, and a satire of showbiz liberals like Sean Penn and Janeane Garofalo, who in “Team America” would sooner sign on to attack the United States than see the United States win.
