HydraFacial Facials: What Is It, Cost And Skin Benefits

Posted by Jenniffer Sheldon on Saturday, September 28, 2024

When it comes to facials, there's a plethora of methods and brands to choose from. Some call upon natural remedies and holistic techniques, while others utilise high-tech equipment and potent active ingredients. But by far the most popular facial available at the moment is the HydraFacial.

The popular treatment definitely falls under the high-tech category (don't expect any spa music or. gentle stroking!) that can treat all manner of skin concerns from congested pores, to dullness, to dehydration.

What is a HydraFacial?

Essentially, the HydraFacial is a patented 60-minute treatment broken down into three sections that use a device with a clever ‘Vortex-Fusion delivery system’ (more on that later). The first step in the treatment is a deep cleanse and exfoliation. The device delivers the brand's Activ-4 serum to remove dead skin cells as well as GlySal™, a combination of glycolic and salicylic acids to boost skin's glow.

The next step is Extract & Hydrate, which is where the device acts like a vacuum, sucking up all the dirt, grime and excess oil from deep within your pores as well as whipping away any dead skin cells from the surface. The grime then shoots up a tube and collects in a little container ready for inspection (or not depending on how recently you've eaten).  While all this is going on, the device is simultaneously delivering hydrating serums deep into the pores in lieu of the oil and dirt it's just removed, leaving skin smooth and supple.

Finally,  HydraFacial's third step is Fuse + Protect, which involves flooding skin with protecting antioxidants and tailored serums, depending on the skin's individual needs, including popular skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which is perfect for hydration and salicylic acid for oil control and spot prevention.

What are the skin benefits?

"The beauty of the HydraFacial facials is that they're suitable for all skin types and have a variety of indications," explains Dr Esho, a renowned cosmetic doctor. "From helping to treat acne-prone skin, to treating the signs of ageing the HydraFacial is diverse and can be tailored to each individual skin type."

As well as acne and hydration, HydraFacial also improves conditions that are notoriously tricky to treat such as rosacea and hyperpigmentation. Some results (like a newfound glow and improved clarity) are immediate, and there are also cumulative benefits for concerns like fine lines and uneven skin tone, so it's worth booking in for regular treatments, especially if you have a big event coming up like your wedding or a special holiday.

The best bit? There's no downtime and is totally pain-free. "After the treatment, the skin is left with a glow and you can skin feels truly cleaned and clean. I find many of my patients fall asleep during treatment – and wake up to glowing skin!"

Where can I get one?

Due to HydraFacial's popularity, clinics and spas up and down the country now offer the treatment. Plus, you'll know you're getting the real deal because HydraFacial is a trademarked and branded treatment, so each clinic must be licensed and registered in order to offer it to clients.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary depending on which clinic you visit, but one HydraFacial is usually in the region of £140. Some clinics offer discounts for multiple sessions, which is handy if you're looking to incorporate the treatment into your regular routine.
